Merlo Tech Talk: Being on Center

Merlo Tech Talk: Being on Center

A feature on a number of Merlo telehandlers is boom lateral movement. We call this  boom side-shift. Put the telehandler into place, and use this feature for precision load placement.

To use the boom side-shift feature:

  • Position the telehandler
  • Use the thumb-wheel, located on the joystick, to ‘shift’ the boom left or right from center up to 18”.

This feature can be used with the boom at any lift height or reach length.

Centering the Merlo Telehandler

Once the boom is shifted off-center it will stay in that position until corrected by the operator.

To see if the boom is centered or in boom-side shift, look to the screen on the steering column.

We do not recommend driving the telehandler unless the machine is centered. This is a best practice for safety and machine performance.

Boom side-shift icon - Inactive

In the lower bottom left of this screen is a box with a left/right arrow above it.

When the boom is centered, this icon WILL NOT be lit.

Boom side-shift - Active

The arrow/box icon IS illuminated when the boom is activately in the side-shift position.

This icon will stay illuminated as a reminder of the boom’s side-shift position. The  operator must manually move the thumb roller to center position to center the boom and turn off the icon.
